The Dr. Marsha H. Lupi International Transformational Learning Scholarship
The Dr. Marsha H. Lupi International Transformational Learning Scholarship was established in 2016 upon the retirement of Dr. Lupi, former associate dean and Interim Dean of the College of Education and Human Services. Dr. Lupi’s commitment to study abroad provides an opportunity for students to participate in faculty-led trips where teacher ed students have interned or had a field experience in school settings and sport management students in sport facilities. Silverfield College of Education and Human Services study abroad trips have been to, for example, Belize, Haiti, the Philippines, Italy, Poland and the UK have been available to all majors. Testimonies from study abroad participants have indicated that having the opportunity to observe and participate in a different school system and culture, made them a better teacher in their local home schools. In addition, students have reported that when they interviewed for positions as teachers, their study abroad experience was highlighted as a plus for the teaching position. Sport management majors similarly reported that sport agencies and organizations were impressed with their international experience and global understanding of sport. Students agreed that studying abroad can be a transformative experience enriching their professional and personal lives through cultural immersion and the meeting of new people.
The Dr. Marsha H. Lupi International Transformational Learning Scholarship will help offset the high cost of international travel and provide an opportunity for students who have felt that a study abroad program wasn’t possible for them due to financial limitations.
