Meals on Wings

The Meals on Wings program recovers food from several locations within the Brooks Rehabilitation and Baptist Health systems locally and repackages the food into healthful meals. Each week, five meals are provided to seniors on the waitlist for Meals on Wheels. The program is coordinated by a team of students, faculty and staff who volunteer to recover food, prepare the meals and deliver to the seniors.

MORE THAN JUST A MEAL

Unfortunately, food insecurity is a growing trend for some of the most at-risk populations in our communities. However, the effects of food insecurity are more than nutritional. Not knowing where or when your next meal is coming from can have very real psychological effects.

Meals on Wings has demonstrated that participants experience significant improvements in their nutritional status, nutrient intake, food security level, loneliness and mental well-being.

HELP OUR NORTHEAST FLORIDA SENIORS

You can make a difference in our community by supporting the UNF Meals on Wings program. In Duval County alone, over 1,000+ seniors who are eligible for Meals on Wheels are on a waitlist due to funding shortages. The Meals on Wings program offers a solution for some of those seniors.

WHY YOUR SUPPORT IS IMPORTANT

Meals on Wings operates strictly on a donor-funded budget. In the past year, with support from the local community, we delivered over 26,000 meals to homebound seniors. Now more than ever, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we need your help and support to make sure we can provide a warm holiday meal to everyone!
