About the UNF Dolphin Research Team

Dr. Quincy Gibson and her students have been studying the dolphins in the St. Johns River (SJR) since 2011 using systematic photo-identification and behavioral surveys. This long-term data set provides increasingly valuable information about the complex social lives of SJR dolphins and the threats they face in this urban environment. The UNF Dolphin Research Team (two faculty and four students) will be traveling to Perth, Australia in November to present their research at the 25th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals.

How Your Gifts Will Make an Impact

This international conference is the premiere meeting for marine mammal scientists and students worldwide. It will be a formative experience for our UNF students to present their high-quality thesis research in this venue. These presentations are an indication that they have made a substantial contribution to the field and are a significant step towards becoming recognized marine mammal scientists. In addition to sharing our findings, our team will learn about the latest advances in the field of marine mammal science and be inspired by all of the amazing work that is being done worldwide to conserve marine mammals. This conference will also provide our students with an important opportunity to network with potential employers and/or future collaborators.
